DC’s Legends of Tomorrow season one generated a large amount of viewership with its time travelling superhero antics, and season two is looking to up the ante with character development, cross-over episodes, and even zombies! Now who doesn’t like the sound of that?
Breaking down the trailer, viewers are instantly introduced to a new character in Rex Tyler, a member of the Justice Society of America, coming to the team from the future claiming that they are exactly where Rip Hunter said they would be, opening the door for a slew of questions like, Who is Rex Tyler? When did Rip talk to him? And why did he get sent back? The trailer then breaks off to show the Justice Society of America, or JSA, seal and our first brief look at Sarah Grey as Stargirl. Another brief glimpse we see is Reverse-Flash making his way into the trailer followed by a load of hinted crossovers, including Arrow, Flash, and Supergirl to name a few. That’s right, CW acquired the Supergirl series during the off-season so expect to see a lot more of her in crossovers to help get her up to speed in the Arrowverse. Jonah Hex also returns in what appears to be a larger role than in previous seasons, with the trailer showing escapades in France, a large segment during the American Civil War (complete with zombies), and New York 1942 where the season will start with episode one ‘Out of Time’.
Out of Time
Wiping the slate clean from season one with the destruction of Vandal Savage, the first episode looks to pick up in a sort of reunion for the scattered Legends. A series newcomer, Dr Nate Heywood, is used to get the ball rolling to gather the Legends back together for a new threat. That threat has been hinted to include a clash between the Legion of Doom, who want to destroy the JSA, and actually the JSA a group that is basically a major league version of the Legends that seeks to protect the earth from the Legion of Doom. The Legends are here to get caught right in the middle of all of this. Making matters worse, the Reverse-Flash has returned to aid the Legion of Doom with his super speed in their quest against the Legends. The stakes are set high for the first episode, in which Albert Einstein’s, and all of New York’s, safety hangs in the balance. Will the Legends be able to stop the Nazis and save the timeline, or will the entire future change when the run ‘Out of Time’.
The CW kindly made their entire fall lineup of DC shows premiere all within the same 2-week span, and Legends of Tomorrow will pick up on October 13, 2016, in the 8pm time slot.
