James Cameron, who is a real machine for blockbusters, shared what is the main idea behind the four sequels of his science fiction hit of 2009- Avatar.
The incredible imagination of Cameron has inspired a video game, theme park and one of the newest acrobatic performances of Cirque du Soleil – Toruk: First Flight, which reminds a lot of the movie.
“The Avatar story arc was originally meant to be a trilogy, but I overwrite and my writers overwrote as well,” he shared with Variety. “But basically the first of the sequels cloned itself and became two films, so now it’s four films, and the studio’s very happy with it. They have an opportunity to make more money but it’s also an opportunity to spend a lot more money, too, so there’s a clench factor.”
Cameron has said that Avatar 2 and Avatar 3 are one script, “not really a trilogy, but just an overall character arc.”
The first sequel, known only as Avatar 2 at this early stage, is set to arrive in December 2018, followed by Avatar 3 in December 2020, Avatar 4 in December 2022 and Avatar 5 in December 2023. What a great Christmas present, right?
The sequels will focus on the fate of Jake and Nеytiri and their children, said Cameron in an interview for Variety. We will see Sam Worthington as Corporal Sully again and Zoe Saldana will play his beloved one.
