Fantastic Beasts is a fantastic book written by J.K. Rowling in the year 2001. J.K. Rowling is a renowned author for writing the amazing series of Harry Potter. This book was also written in the Harry Potter’s context.
Harry Potter series presents a new world filled with magic, magicians and beautiful animals and birds in their world with their majestic prowess. Some of these animals are extremely powerful and rare as well. Being so hard to find and keep a track of them, many magicians researched these animals and kept their record. A magizoologist named Newt Scamander in the Harry Potter world had written one such book. Harry Potter owns one such copy of the book. Newt Scamander claims that all the contents of the book were put together after years of traveling, exploring and research. The book contains observations of 85 magical species and all the possible information related to them. The cover of the book, however, contains scratch marks of an unknown animal. The first edition of the book was commissioned in 1918. It was done was another character in the series by the name Augustus Worme, who was the head of Obscurus Books. The book was published in 1927. The fifty-second edition of the book contains almost all the recognized animals from over 5 continents.
In the story, this book is an essential reference book for the first year magicians. It is an encyclopedia that students, as well as teachers, refer regularly while dealing with any creature. In the third year, when students work with Rubeus Hagrid to take care of animals, this book proves to be a real boon for them. This book is also used to teach students fighting and defense against these animals in their Defense Against the Dark Arts classes. In the Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire part of the Harry Potter series, this book also contains a few doodles, made by Ron Weasley. These doodles give additional information about the animals to the Harry Potter Franchise fans like the Hungarian Horntail is the most fearsome dragon of all. This information is also confirmed by Albus Dumbledore, the principal of Hogwarts, when he says, “Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus” which is latin for “Never tickle a sleeping dragon.” Some of Ron’s doodles are also believed to confirm that Hogwarts is in Scotland.
The new British fantasy film is due to be released on 18th November. Based on the book written by J.K.Rowling, it is closely related to the Harry Potter stories and Rowling will be trying her hand at screenwriting for the first time, plus co-producing it.
With a strong cast, led by Eddie Redmayne, the film is expected to be the first one of a trilogy, with the 2nd and 3rd films being released in November 2017 and November 2018 respectively.
It is set in New York in 1926, in a world where magical inhabitants co-exist with non-magicals. There are tension and fear between the two races and an extremist organization called the New Salem Philanthropic Society (NSPS) is devoted to destroying all magical beings.
Newt Scamander (Redmayne) is an eccentric wizard who works for the British Ministry of Magic. He intends to write a book called ‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ and goes to America for an important meeting with the Magical Congress of the United States of America (MACUSA). During this meeting, a magical expanding briefcase accidentally releases not only a number of dangerous beasts but also their habitats. This sees Scamander fleeing the scene in a bid to rectify the problem, and going on the run from the American wizard authorities, with relationships between the two races becoming even more strained.
Percival Graves (Colin Farrell) is an Auror who is also MACUSA’S Director of Magical Security. He is directly responsible for all wizard’s protection and heads the hunt for Scamander, working alongside him as the President of MACUSA is Seraphina Picquery (Carmen Ojogo).
Katherine Waterston plays Porpentina “Tina” Goldstein, a sensible, no-nonsense witch who holds a lowly office position at MACUSA, but longs to join the fight against the sinister NSPS, she becomes romantically involved with Scamander. Alison Sudol plays her younger, high-spirited sister Queenie Goldstein.
The leader of the NSPS is the evil Mary Lou Barebone (Samantha Morton) who will stop at nothing to expose and wipe out all witches and wizards. Her strange, adopted son Credence Barebone is played by Ezra Miller.
Henry Shaw Jr., (Josh Cowdery) is a US senator whose rally gets picketed by the NSPS, his father Henry Shaw Sr., is played by John Voight.
Faith Wood-Blagrove plays Modesty, a troubled but calm girl who possesses the gift of being able to see into people’s minds.
Jacob Kowalski (Dan Fogler) is a non-magical and dreams of becoming a baker, he only becomes aware of New York’s magical citizens after a chance meeting with Scamander, which leads to the pair being involved in some amazing adventures.
Gnarlack (Ron Pearlman) is a gangster who just also happens to be a goblin. He owns a sleazy nightclub and he too comes into contact with Scamander by accident.
A huge budget of $225 million has ensured that the film has extensive and impressive sets, which has reportedly surprised even Redmayne (who always thought he should have been cast as one of the red-headed Weasley family in the original Harry Potter films!), and the beasts themselves are promised to be a mixture of old and new ones, including Bowtruckle, Augurey, Crup, Niffler, Ashwinder, Leithfold, and Merpeople.
