“American Horror Story” to Do a Crossover

“American Horror Story” is going to do a crossover, and it won’t just be an episode – it will be an entire season.

In typical fashion, Ryan Murphy only hinted at enough to drive fans crazy with wondrous excitement but didn’t give away anything definitive. At Entertainment Weekly’s PopFest panel this past Sunday, Murphy stated, “…we are going to do a season that’s a crossover between Murder House and Coven together, which is very bizarre… There will be characters from Murder House and characters from Coven together.” He stated that the crossover will not take place during Season 7 (whose theme is still not yet revealed).

“American Horror Story” to Do Crossover

FX has only renewed AHS for one more season of the anthology series, and will have to sign on for more if this crossover is to take place (likely in Season 8).

All that Murphy has confirmed is that the crossover will be a fusion of Season 1, Murder House and Season 3, Coven.  Murder House took place in Los Angeles and told the story of the Harmons (Dylan McDermott and Connie Britton), who moved to the LA mansion from Boston in an attempt to start life over. They soon discover, however, that the mansion is haunted by its previous owners, and the neighbors are hardly less creepy than the phantom residents. Coven took place in New Orleans, telling the tale of a group (called a Coven) of Salem witches fighting to survive. Returning AHS actors Taissa Farmiga, Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters were among the starring actors in this season.

Some fans, while delighted at this innovative idea, are not surprised at the idea of a seasonal crossover. AHS uses largely the same group of actors throughout its seasons, but changes the storyline and their characters. The crossover will incorporate actors from both seasons, and the fascinating challenge at hand will be avoiding the discrepancies that exist with having one actor playing two different roles in the same season. It certainly gives the show’s fans something to think about and eagerly anticipate.

New episodes of Roanoke episodes can be seen on FX on Wednesdays at 10 pm (but hurry – it’s almost over!).
